Dignified Silence

One by one the people mocked him
Jeering as they walked on by,
“Save yourself if you’re so mighty.”
Silence was the Lord’s reply.

The Roman whip had swelled the flesh;
The vicious nails had forced his cry,
“You healed others, save yourself.”
Silence was the Lord’s reply.

As He hung on wooden cross,
Between two thieves about to die,
“Save yourself,” the crowd would chant.
But silence was the Lord’s reply.
